Case #29: Video

[It's an extreme close up of a Victorian constable! George has accidentally turned the camera on himself while picking up his communicator in an attempt to figure out what the strange device is. He looks a little older; a little stockier, because no one escapes the ravages of aging, and 1898 has been kind of a stressful year, what with all of the meth, and Draculas, and outwitting the American government. All of the brass on his uniform is also particularly shiny, and he's wearing a pair of white dress gloves and an expression of general confusion.

And then you can see it slowly dawn on him. And then there's a dizzying shot of the floor flying past as George hurries to make sure that...

Yes. The toilette remains.]

Oh my goodness I'm back.

[There's the sound of someone flopping back onto a bed, and a close up of a quilt. The quilt has the spotlight for a good few minutes, until George remembers the communicator is still running. Normal view!]

Could anybody tell me when it is here?

[Of course he does. He also has Sergeant Howie's motorcycle out. It appears he has been cleaning it.]

Oh good. [She slipped inside and tilted her head to the side at the sight of the motorcycle.] Have you always had that?

[George glances fondly at it.]

Er. No. But I have had it for some months now. You wanted to see my typewriter?

Yes. [She trailed a hand down the handles of the bike before turning towards him and walking over. A real typewriter!]

I haven't ever seen one close up before.

[George gestures to his Oliver with a flourish. It looks used but well cared for.]

[She waked over, her hands clasped behind her back so she wouldn't be tempted to touch.]

I never had need to go near one. And I think they've been Leapbacked. It's hard to keep track of what we have and don't have now.

Pencil. [She shrugged and found a place to sit.] Ink. I just don't think they have typewriters like this.

Ah. Well a typewriter is a bit faster. And also neater. And with these sorts of models, you can actually see the letters as you type them!

[She leaned against the desk and shook her head at that. She wasn't impressed by much, most of the time.]

[George hunches over the typewriter, and pecks at the keys with his index fingers in a stunning display of terrible typing.]

There.

[The sentence: "Hello Jane! I am writing to you!" has appeared on the paper.]

If it sticks at all, just...become annoyed with it, that's what I always do.

Becoming annoyed doesn't do anything. [She rolled herself but put herself in front of the typewriter, staring at the buttons. In true hunt-and-peck fashion, she managed to type out 'hello george' before she turned and grinned up at him. Alert the authorities, Jane was having fun.]
