[George is leaning against the wall, holding his shoulder and wincing.]

Ride?

[Ride...what?]

[He tilts his head.] Nnnn, no, bad idea, that looks like it might be dislocated. Too much jostling would not go. Besides, I'm not certain how you'd like being carried.

[He walked over to offer a leaning-arm instead.] I'll just keep them off of you.

I wouldn't like it very much at all.

[I.e.: way too manly.]

Besides that there's nothing wrong with my legs.

[A soft chuckle.] The point is that I am more mobile than these creatures. But never mind that. Let us go.

That's certainly something to be thankful for.

[George moves off, still holding his shoulder.]

One would think most people would be more mobile than something which hasn't got any eyes, but apparently not.

No. If they truly were the former keepers of this place it makes a certain sense that that problem is worked around in some way.

[He follows carefully, eyes shifting around to take in any potential followers. He does not mind a confrontation, but not with the Constable watching.

[When the mysterious pulled-to-the-edge sensation begins he braces himself against it and walks close to make sure it does not affect the other man adversely.]

[George starts to sway a bit as he walks.]

That's terribly discomforting. What...do you suppose is over the side, anyway?

Are you feeling light-headed?

I did not check. I could, and relatively safely, but I suspect it is not pleasant.

[George shakes his head.]

Just that strange pushing. It's probably best if you didn't. Just in case.

Ehm...yes, you do have a point. I shall not then. [He gets the stairway door for the functionally one-armed Constable.]

If you come up with another idea for opening that door, I volunteer my aid. I hate merely sitting by in these sort of situations.

[George looks thoughtful.]

Have vampires got any sort of door-related powers?

Unfortunately no. But I can heal back from trying to force it, and even in my reduced state I am fairly strong.

[George looks at his escort quizzically.]

Reduced state?

[Is Dracula dieting?]

Yes. My powers are much less than what they once were.

Oh. I'm sorry. What were they before?

Let us just say that I could have kicked Arthas from one end of the Deck to the other and leave it at that. [He leads the way in case George should lose his footing on the stairs. There is a shuffling noise from the landing below and he peers around at it.]

Faceless. Just one however.

[George tries to peer over Dracula's shoulder.]

What do you propose we ought to do?

I'll just toss it down the stairwell so we can move on. No worries. [Dracula made a business of pushing his sleeves up and strode down the stairs.] Just wait here a moment.

Yes. Of course. That won't be at all worrying.

[But George does as told and waits.]

I'll shout "look out below" if it will make you feel better.

[He heads down the stairs, into the dimness.]

[There's a thump, a sound of blows being exchanged--and then a disgusted gasp followed by an unearthly screech.]

Oh, that's just vile. Chew on my arm all you like, it will heal. Now. Over--you--go!

[Strangely, it would. But at the sound of the screech George has bounded down after him.]

Oi!

[He has his good arm up in a punch-threatening manner.]

[Dracula is struggling to heave a particularly large specimen of Faceless over the edge. The Faceless's skin was slashed open by Dracula's claws, exposing a single madly rolling eye. It clings to the railing like a monkey, gnawing somewhat ineffectually at Dracula's arm. The vampire yanks free and slashes at it again.]

[George shoves his good shoulder at the thing to knock it free of the railing.]

Are you bleeding?

[It's seems like the sort of question one should ask a vampire.]

[It goes over with a squeal, and Dracula slashes at its hands, forcing it to let go of the railing.]

Good man, pulling that off even with the bad shoulder. Brave.

[He picks at his sleeve.] It tore the cloth, but the wound beneath will heal quickly enough.

[George wrinkles his nose at the tear.]

It was only necessary. And I'd have been entirely worse off without you here. But let's push on before any more of them arrive.
