Case #26: Video

[George is stood in his room. If it seems more well lit than usual...it is. Because ghosts can't haunt you in the light; too see-through.]

I think the obvious solution is to hold one to several seances. Whom on board is the most sensitive?

We might also try to catch one of the spirits mid-haunt and try to communicate with it there, but that would require everybody turning out their lights and being quite quiet, luckily, rather late at night. Would anybody else be interested in taking part in such an investigation? ...because I wouldn't like to undertake one alone.

It's a bit more complicated: you've got to have candles, and a round table, and everybody sitting around it has got to hold hands. Then the Spiritualist asks if there are any spirits there, and they either speak, or knock on tables, or fiddle with the lighting. Sometimes the Spiritualist vomits, but I don't think that will happen here, because only the very best mediums can manage that.

Sounds a bit messy...

Do we have a Spiritualist on board? Or, I say, it sounds like you've had a bit of experience with this sort of thing! You could try it if no Spiritualist steps up to the plate.

I'm not sensitive to spirits. I've never seen a real one myself. I thought I had, but it was just a man in a mask.

What does it mean to be sensitive to spirits? It's not chatting with flowers and feelings of marital destiny and nonsense like that, is it? [The thought of Madeline Bassett talking to spirits about him = terrifying.]

It might be that second bit. I don't think flowers have got anything to do with it. It's more: meaningful dreams, and being able to read cards, and getting premonitions. Which are like dreams you have while awake.

Read cards? That doesn't seem to quite fit with the rest of the theme, does it? Even I can read cards provided they're written in English or French.

Oh, you speak French?

Anyway: reading cards is being able to predict the future. With cards.

I was taught French in school. I must admit that I wasn't exactly at the top of my class, but I know enough to get by during holiday to the French Riviera.

I've never predicted the future with cards. Not beyond, "I foresee myself losing a spot of money in the near future."

They have to be a certain sort of cards. Regular playing cards won't work.
