Case #24: Video

[George is seated at his tea table, which is serving as a writing desk at the moment. A copy of the book Carmilla is in front of him.]

Um. I'd like to know who here is, or has ever been a vampire, or has had intim-...particular experi-...contact wi-...knows a lot about vampires. I'd like to speak to all of you, if possible. There are a few things I'd like to ask about.

[George notices the book in front of him, and tries to move it discreetly off screen, so no one is distracted by it's sexiness.]

Well...it was dating, and the actual dating was like...a year, but it's kind of fuzzy because with vampires relationships can be a little less exclusive, because of course they drink from other people, and drinking leads to...you know.

[identity profile] tadwizard.livejournal.com 2011-09-17 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I was going to say sex. I mean, I guess death too, if they take too much.

[identity profile] 19centconstable.livejournal.com 2011-09-17 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I see.

You weren't...jealous?

[identity profile] tadwizard.livejournal.com 2011-09-17 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Not really. I think because I knew he was a vampire, and I know that's what vampires do.

[identity profile] tadwizard.livejournal.com 2011-09-17 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
...yeah? You got a problem with that?

[identity profile] 19centconstable.livejournal.com 2011-09-17 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Well. Yes.

[At least he's honest.]

[identity profile] 19centconstable.livejournal.com 2011-09-18 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Because it's against the law. And God's will.

[Although...just as the Bible says nothing about diddling with aliens, it also conveniently leaves out anything about vampire schtupping. Jesus' friends should have been more specific. Where is Biff when you need him?]

[identity profile] tadwizard.livejournal.com 2011-09-18 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
For one thing, it's not against the law, and for another, apparently it wasn't enough against God's will to bother Henry. He was a really strong Catholic, too.

[identity profile] 19centconstable.livejournal.com 2011-09-18 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
A Catholic vampire?

[How does that work?]

[identity profile] tadwizard.livejournal.com 2011-09-18 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. He'd go to confession and everything.

[identity profile] tadwizard.livejournal.com 2011-09-18 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
What--oh, holy things don't bother vampires where I'm from. And in Toronto the sun sets pretty early in winter and rises pretty late, so he probably just works around that. Well, Vancouver now, but still.

[identity profile] 19centconstable.livejournal.com 2011-09-18 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm from Toronto myself.

That's quite different. So only the sun bothers them?

[identity profile] tadwizard.livejournal.com 2011-09-18 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, the sun kills them, and it's not like they're invincible to anything that isn't sunlight.

[identity profile] 19centconstable.livejournal.com 2011-09-18 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
They could just be shot? Like a regular person? That doesn't seem like a very good deal.

[identity profile] tadwizard.livejournal.com 2011-09-18 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, no. I mean, yes, and it would hurt, but--why do you want to know how to kill them, anyway?

[identity profile] 19centconstable.livejournal.com 2011-09-18 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I don't. I mean, I suspect I do know how, I was just surprised because I had always thought that they were mostly invincible, and that that was supposed to be the upside to having to be dead.

But it is important to know what they might need help against. Or what might accidentally hurt or offend them. We have a lot of Jews and Orientals in the community back home, and sometimes Gypsies as well. Gypsies in particular have a different concept of ownership than we do, and also can curse people. But anyway, my point is: sometimes actions which can look suspicious are simply cultural differences.

[identity profile] tadwizard.livejournal.com 2011-09-18 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
They are, I mean, they're way more invincible than us, at least, it's just I realized I didn't want to be explaining the details of how to kill someone, even if they're not here. And most of the stuff that kills them and isn't sunlight would kill a human, too.

Like telling a gay person that you've got a problem with gay people?

[identity profile] 19centconstable.livejournal.com 2011-09-19 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Sodomy isn't...a culture.

[But he does look slightly, appropriately ashamed.]

[identity profile] tadwizard.livejournal.com 2011-09-19 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Well, no, but being gay isn't a choice, either.

[identity profile] 19centconstable.livejournal.com 2011-09-19 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
No.

[But it was considered something like a disease in George's time; inherited or even possibly contagious. It could be blamed on upbringing or trauma, and corrected and eliminated if caught in time, and if not: had to be contained.

However, Tony's words have had some of their desired effect, because it has hit George (somewhere around the stomach) that making fun of people with diseases isn't particularly nice.]

[identity profile] tadwizard.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
[Tony is completely unaware of this so is thinking it's sinking in in the way he wants it to.]

So it's not really fair to be against something that isn't something someone chose, is it?
