Case #22: Video

[Someone looks nauseous. (It's George.) He's walking somewhat unsteadily through a hallway.]

Mr. Spinola? If you could just...let me know that you remain unharmed... I'm not sure what it is I might have done to deserve my removal as your warden, but I am...I am sorry.

I...need to locate Mr. Slater.

...

I think I may be sick.

[And George is gentlemanly enough to turn the camera away.]

Yeah, he was concerned about the mixing of medications too, but that was something else. I don't know why you bother asking if you're not going to listen to me. Like I told him about that, you don't know what it is or what's in it, so there's no point in making a note of it. I gave him permission to write down looking for adverse reactions and to even to make note of any reactions that might happen, but there's no way to prevent anything, so his going around telling everyone about my addiction isn't going to help anyone or anything.

I am listening to you, I'm just trying to make sure I've got all of the facts. I do agree that he hasn't go any right to announce your business publicly, but I also don't think it's an entirely terrible idea to have it noted in your medical file that you take a medication regularly, just in case you react unexpectedly to another medication, or type of food, or animal bite.

I told him he could leave a note to look for reactions. If there's a note about taking a medication, then people are going to be asking questions. They're going to want to know what it is, what it's made of, where I got it, etc. I have no idea. All I know is one helps balance out the side-effects of the other. That's it. There's no name, no chemical list-- nothing. Nothing that would help them know about what it might mix poorly with or anything.

People can ask question all they'd like, it doesn't mean you've got to answer them. But there's no harm in giving a bit of a hint on which questions to ask first in case of emergency.

And couldn't you examine one and find out what chemicals are in it? You do have a laboratory at your disposal, and I'm sure Mr. Russett would help you.

Yeah, there is. I don't want to deal with questions. I'd rather die and deal with the death toll, if it comes to that, than to deal with all the questions between now and then. Call it a difference of opinion, but it's my opinion. You can agree or disagree with him all you want. The point is he still tried to take advantage of me when I was sick and I wouldn't mind something being done about that.

Unless you're resigning as my warden.

I might be able to find out what chemicals are in it, but it doesn't matter unless they work together and I can figure out the way that they interact and the effects they have on specific neurons.. and no, I can't figure that out. I don't know that kind of science and nor does Eddie. Someone here might, but I don't want to go handing my drug around to everyone who I think could help and just hope that they don't take any. I have a very limited store and anyone who tries this shit is going to want to try it again.

I do intend to have a talk with him, but perhaps you should do the same. He may not be aware you felt taken advantage of.

Would you want me to resign as your warden? Assuming I become reassigned again?

Like I said, maybe I'll save it for when we're not stuck together.

What? No. Come on, George. I was giving you shit. You're a good warden.

That may be wise. On the other hand: neither of you could walk away from the situation without it being resolved at the moment.

Just making sure.

I'll think about it. Maybe you're right.

Don't doubt yourself. It's unbecoming of a gentleman. You're supposed to be confident and secure.

Confidence in myself wouldn't be very useful if you had no confidence in me, Mr. Spinola.

Yeah, but me having confidence in you is embarrassing if you don't have any confidence in yourself. You worry about your own confidence. Mine isn't going anywhere.
