Do you feel you can't believe enough, or that you understand too much?

The former, far more than the latter. Understanding anything here is a lot to ask.

Not afraid, no. Although I did suspected it of being haunted for a time.

You oughn't to sell yourself short, miss. Anyone can believe.

Haunted seems like a fairly accurate description.

Believe in what, exactly? That this is all for the better?

At the time, yes. Things were happening quite mysteriously and hauntingly. It turned out not to be ghosts at all, of course.

Or that good might happen here. That you might meet wonderful people, and see inspiring things, and have an excellent adventure.

No it was...this fellow who hijacked the ship and a flock of...faceless...bitey...I'm still not entirely sure. But they've gone now.

Enough for me. Interesting people and interesting adventures are nothing new, why should they make any more difference than they ever did before?

Why haven't you felt they've ever made a difference to you?

They've made as much difference as any part of my life, I suppose. But they've still been part of my life, one I've grown used to, and once I grow used to this place I doubt it'll have the intended effect.

I would think that would be something one would want to change.
