I seem to have spent the recent weekend writing jokes for a vaudeville act. I can't say that I understand them now that I have come back to myself.

Is anyone aware: what is the "deal" with air-plane food?

This is one thing I don't have a clue about, other than it's just there to get people not to bitch about being hungry.

Everyone is more amenable after a good meal.

But how could anybody think to complain during air travel? I'm sure I'd be far too excited.

It's usually the people that do it so often that it's boring.

I can't say I have any complaints about it. [Only because his last airplane meal was a nice salad and wine.]

Boring?!!? Flying through the air, like a bird, gazing down as the Earth passes below you is boring?

In my time if you put someone on a horse they either think it's the most exciting thing in the world or they're scared out of their wits. It just depends on what era you're in.

But here's to hoping you get to do it sometime.

Do you suppose the air cooks have to learn an entirely different way of cooking? Due to the height of the food?

I agree with them. Horses can be quite unpredictable. And they seem much larger once you're on top of them.

I've ridden a few. Worse when they can backtalk you. [Not elaborating.]

I don't know how much cooking really goes on with airline meals... Which could be most people's problem with it.

Yes, we had a Shetland pony when I was a lad. It was forever getting into things. And then, of course, when one wanted it to move it rarely did.

I suppose a stove might be a danger... But they manage them on boats, despite the occasional rough seas.

It's just a nickname. Now that the little [turd] guy that had that name isn't here I feel alright in using it again.

When I was younger people [his Dad and friends] called me 'Slim'.

Ah. My Inspector calls me...a number of things. His use of language is quite creative.

I've been called lanky. Although I believe I've grown out of that. You do seem well conditioned though, sir.

Inspector Brackenreid has a bit more of a temper.

A lot of lads seem to grow that way. Even the ones from well-off families who've never gone hungry in their lives.
